Lucky thing Omar's got all those records he did in Amsterdam way back when, and another one's on the way. The Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Quintet's The Apocalypse Inside an Orange drops November 20 on Infrasonic Sound Recordings. A 60-minute double LP, Orange squeezes in seven brand new tracks and a previously unheard take on "Jacob Van Lennepkade" from Omar's self-titled album. The Quintet features three Mars Volta members: bassist Juan Alderete de la Pena, drummer/percussionist Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez, and horn player/percussionist Adrian Terrazas Gonzales, as well as keyboardist "Money" Mark Ramos-Nishita, who has worked with the Beastie Boys.

Omar Rodriguez Lopez Releases New Solo Album

Mars Volta composer/guitarist Omar Rodriguez Lopez has confirmed a date for the release of his solo project, The Omar Rodriguez Lopez Quintet. The record, titled The Apocalypse Side Of An Orange, was recorded in 2005 while Rodriguez Lopez was living in Amsterdam will be released November 20th 2007. The Quintet is made up of bassist Juan Alderete de la Pena, keyboardist Money Mark Ramos-Nishita, horn player/percussionist Adrian Terrazas Gonzales, and drummer/percussionist Marcel Rodriguez Lopez.

The album will be released as a limited edition double-vinyl with seven new tracks - including a previously unreleased version of the song “Jacob Van Lennepkade” which appeared on Omar’s first album.

The Apocalypse Inside of An Orange is the next in a series of albums written while Omar Rodriguez Lopez was living in Amsterdam in 2005. As the name on the album implies, the tracks included are performed by the Omar Rodriguez Lopez Quintet (as opposed to the ORL Group), the band that toured Europe in late 2005, which includes bassist Juan Alderete de la Pena, keyboardist Money Mark Ramos-Nishita, horn player/percussionist Adrian Terrazas Gonzales, and drummer/percussionist Marcel Rodriguez Lopez. The 60-minute, limited edition double-vinyl LP features 7 new tracks as well as a previously unreleased version of the song "Jacob Van Lennepkade" that first appeared on Omar's self-titled (aka "Dutch") album in 2005. A CD version will be released sometime in 2008. Meanwhile, the songs will be available online shortly after the release of the vinyl.
