CITAZIONE
Following last week's news that an At The Drive-In (pictured) reunion could be on the cards - the seminal post-hardcore outfit split in 2001, members forming The Mars Volta and Sparta - Clash couldn't help but ask about the real possibility of the five getting back together when we met Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López of The Mars Volta today.

The duo are in town to support the release of their fifth TMV album, 'Octahedron', the Clash review of which can be found HERE. A full feature on the band will follow in issue 41 of Clash Magazine, but here's what happened when we asked about the possible reunion (well, next year is the tenth anniversary of the phenomenal 'Relationship Of Command' album)...

- - -

I've got to ask about the rumours circulating of an At The Drive-In reunion, stirred last week...
Cedric: No, no, it's not true.
Omar: It's nothing personal.

But the demand has increased, as the band finds new fans... Are you guys in the habit of never saying never?
Omar: (Laughs) Oh, you sneaky little man! I think we're smart enough to never say never, as a lot relies on how you can change over a lifetime, but would you wear your old t-shirt and pants that were your favourites when you were 17?

Honestly, I'm probably wearing them now!
Omar: Well, you have that luxury; but I don't think ours fit us anymore - my bones have grown, and I've put on some weight, so I'd look pretty ridiculous.

But have you ever received an offer to reform?
Omar: Oh yeah, sure! We've received offers in the realm of millions of dollars.
Cedric: But the whole thing is that we've buried the hatchet [with our ex-bandmates], so that's all that matters.

- - -

The Mars Volta play London's ICA venue on June 18, and 'Octahedron' is released on June 22.

secondo me dipenderà dalle necessità economiche nel medio periodo.

CITAZIONE
no i dont listen to any old atdu stuff. i was in the band since 95 so i had to listen to that stuff every single day. to say i was burnt out is an understatement. i don't mean to sound snobby but i just can't go there. im proud of the hard work we did and what we accomplished but i cant hear myself like that anymore. you grew up and move on, and you try not to look at your baby photos....because frankly your constantly being reminded about them. great years, great times. love those guys. in fact tony hajjar just sent me two tracks of electronic music to sing on and i cant wait to tackle it. please excuse the snobby attitude we display in our nardwuar interview. we have grown and i can understand how people might be turned off by it.

interessanti rivelazioni di cbz sugli ATDI:

CITAZIONE
"i didn't think to ask for a guitar credit on relationship of command but i did play all of ARCARSENAL. I think i did rolodex propaganda too. its been soo long but i do remember the stuff that i would write was a bit too arthritic as far dissonant chords go for finger placement so jim would tell me to track it and he just figured it out later for live purposes. i wrote most of farenhiet , tickilish from acrobatic , came up with drums for incetardis, wrote catacombs most of it give or take little parts that i didnt, but catacombs was originally written from being inspired by watching golden play when defacto opened for them, it had more of a golden feel, but i wrote the chorus and verses so i guess u could say thats my guitar playing too.

porfirio diaz was one of mine as well, picket fence cartel, devil among the tailors(not a very good song total wanna be brainiac on my part) oh yeah i also wrote lopsided on in casino out all the lead guitar stuff was omar and we all chimed in on arrangement but it was pretty much set in stone because of the lyrics so i did write it. song writing IS melody and lyric.

i hope that answers your questions about my guitar playing, its hard to deviate from the chords i come up with cuz they utilize a lone string ringing in dissonance ( thank you thurston more lee renaldo and guy picciotto! ) or like i said before the chords i make can be like a game of twister and its what gives it that sound, you couldnt possibly get the same emotional impact by coming up with a "correct way " to play the chords and it would sound plain. so in a nut shell that is my playing i just never asked for guitar or singled out writing credit. ah to be young and naive( or as we like to hide behind...) to be idealistically "punk" " (CBZ)
